New MilSim and airsoft players might not immediately carry the proper kit they will need during a game. Even PC and console MilSim players don’t sometimes know about the appropriate combination of personal kits that ground troops carry daily. Honestly, we want to run around shooting at people while playing soldier.
However, once you familiarize yourself with military equipment, it will be easier next time you prepare for the field. We all love using military equipment since these things are robust and can withstand the rigors of actual combat.
Different Types Of Personal Equipment
In the following parts of this article, we will discuss the different types of personal equipment (military) you can use. You will better understand each piece of equipment and its daily function.
Helmet
Modern ground troops wear the latest helmet models available to them. The most typical helmet is what we call a combat helmet. Warriors have worn combat helmets ever since the first formal armies became mainstream. Since our weapons evolved from spears and arrows towards automatic weapons and powerful long-range cannons – helmets now play a crucial role.
The primary purpose of a modern helmet is to protect its owner from concussions, shrapnel, and flying debris that can cause physical harm. Many combat helmets of today are made from robust synthetic and natural materials, making them more lightweight. Some combat helmet models can even withstand the impact of various bullets.
Night Vision Goggles
Entering combat after daylight fades is challenging and impractical. However, many combat units learned to maneuver during the dark to avoid direct contact with their opponents. It helps transport supplies and ammunition while using the cover of darkness.
Today, a handful of soldiers can perform different activities even at nighttime. All thanks to night vision technologies. Even modern assault and sniper rifles have optical attachments such as night vision scopes giving shooters an advantage. It helps soldiers see objects through the night with the help of tiny amounts of light.
BDUs (Battle Dress Uniforms)
Battle Dress Uniforms (BDUs) are the uniforms worn by modern troopers. Every BDU type follows a camouflage pattern. Aside from that, BDUs follow a standard that belongs to a country’s camouflage pattern design for their soldiers. (e.g., UCP, OCP, etc.)
Modern BDU designs feature multiple pockets for carrying additional tools and equipment. Even private companies manufacture combat BDUs able to withstand dirt, heat, and water. Military BDUs also feature paddings for the elbows, forearms, and knees.
Vests
There are many types of combat vests that modern soldiers wear today. Some combat vests are lightweight that consist of straps and additional pockets.
The famous vests we see in action movies and TV series are ballistic vests. These vests can carry metal or ceramic plates inside allotted spaces for protecting a soldier from bullets and other field hazards.
Some vests are modular – meaning that people can modify them to reduce weight, be easily worn, or increase overall protection and load out.
Packs
Military backpacks are known as load-bearing equipment. Traditional military backpacks are also famous as rucksacks. In short, military backpacks are made from robust materials designed to carry more equipment yet be sturdy enough to survive battlefield conditions and long marches.
Other forms of military backpacks are designed to carry tools to support troops. Some packs can have radios, medkits, stretchers, parachutes, static weapons, and sleeping bags. There are many packs that each military service member uses, and it depends either on their mission or field objective.
Optics
We all know about the scope that sharpshooters and shooters attach to their special long-range rifles. However, many people don’t know that sniper scopes fall under the umbrella category known as optics. There are several optics available today.
The traditional battlefield optic is a weapon’s iron sights. Due to many technological advances and the availability of rare-earth metals, they now have a plethora of optics you can use.
For example, pistols and assault rifles can be fitted with red dot scopes or reflex sights, while long-range rifles have special scope attachments. Military optics vary in design and purpose. You can use different optics for close-quarter, medium-range, and long-range shooting purposes.
Surveillance Equipment
Observing the terrain and enemy movement became complicated yet easier since drones and other methods are now available. However, modern combat soldiers still rely on traditional tools such as binoculars and scopes. Although binoculars and other handheld optics seem ancient, they now have modern features such as night and thermal vision, laser targeting, and even adjustable lenses.
Conclusion
Military equipment covers a vast subject filled with categories. However, we want to deliver what military simulators use all the time. Your typical modern infantryman has many options and equipment depending on their mission or battlefield objective.
